Situated in the heart of Hollywood, the Hollywood Studios project consists of 1,000 sqft of content production space. Intended to host multiple creators throughout the day, the client wanted a designated space where people would capture and commemorate their visit.

Our analysis identifies three touch-points within the user’s journey - beginning with the entry reception, a transitional wall, and then the tunnel. Each vary in their impact and role in the user’s experience, with the overall strategy of creating a build up to the tunnel.

As the tunnel is the threshold that separates the public spaces from the private recording studios, we wanted to emphasize this transition by creating an experience that felt fully immersive.

Approach
The design direction is inspired by the entertainment and nightlife culture of the Hollywood neighborhood, specifically playing on the lively atmosphere and intense saturation of colors and lights.

‘All of the Lights’
Study A implements lighting as the primary element, alluding to the marquee lighting typical of several Hollywood entertainment establishments.

The light strips are arrayed along the curve of the tunnel, while the adjacent wall is covered in a metal laminate to bounce the light off and create an immersion of glowing bulbs.

‘Disco a Go Go’
Study B plays off the language of the celebrated disco ball, creating a full coverage pattern from stainless steel disks. The mirror-finish of the disks creates an interactive experience as visitors respond to their own moving reflection.

Vinyl graphics illustrated in an 'Old Hollywood' style are interdispersed throughout the threshold, providing the opportunity to incorporate easter eggs relating to either Hollywood or the brand at large.

‘Gradient Dreams’
Study C explores color saturating the wall with a gradient that intensifies as visitors go deeper into the tunnel.

It implements a series of vinyl-wrapped fins and LED light strips to create a dynamic visual experience that shifts as it's viewed from different perspectives.
